Introducing FBGrabber — Download Facebook Videos the Easy Way

A free, open-source desktop app for downloading Facebook videos on any platform.

We're excited to announce FBGrabber — a clean, cross-platform desktop application that makes downloading Facebook videos as simple as pasting a link. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, it's completely free and open-source under the MIT license.

Why We Built It

Downloading a video from Facebook has always been unnecessarily complicated. Most online tools are riddled with intrusive ads, pop-ups, and suspicious redirects. Browser extensions break with every platform update. Command-line tools like yt-dlp are powerful but intimidating for non-technical users.

We wanted something that just works — a native desktop app with a clean UI, no ads, no tracking, and no hoops to jump through. Paste a URL, pick your quality, and hit download. That's it.

How It Works

FBGrabber wraps the reliable yt-dlp engine with a polished graphical interface built on Qt. The workflow is straightforward:

  1. Paste a Facebook video URL into the input bar
  2. Choose your quality — the app fetches all available formats showing resolution, FPS, codec, and file size
  3. Add to queue and start downloading — watch real-time progress with speed and ETA

Key Features

  • Quality Selection — pick from every available resolution, codec, and format before downloading
  • Download Queue — manage multiple downloads with real-time progress, speed, and ETA tracking
  • Concurrent Downloads — download multiple videos simultaneously with configurable concurrency
  • Cross-Platform — native builds for Windows (.exe), macOS (.dmg), and Linux (.deb)
  • Private Video Support — use cookies to access restricted or private videos
  • Clean, Modern UI — dark and light themes, color-coded status indicators, and context menus

Built for Everyone

FBGrabber was designed with both technical and non-technical users in mind. Under the hood, it leverages the battle-tested yt-dlp engine for reliable video extraction. On top of that, we built a polished Qt-based interface with PySide6 that feels native on every platform — including platform-specific theming for macOS and Windows.

The download queue gives you full control with status indicators (Pending, Downloading, Processing, Completed, Failed), right-click context menus to retry, remove, or open files, and real-time metrics showing download speed and estimated time remaining.

Open Source & Free

FBGrabber is released under the MIT license — completely free to use, modify, and distribute. No ads, no subscriptions, no data collection. We believe useful tools should be accessible to everyone.

What's Next

The current release is version 0.1.0, and we're actively working on a major rewrite. Upcoming features include support for additional platforms beyond Facebook, batch URL importing, auto-update functionality, and an even more refined user experience.
